XALET HORT DEL QUER

The plot, of irregular geometry and with a steep downward slope, enjoys a privileged orientation, with excellent sun exposure and open views over the historic center of Ordino and the valley. The project stems from these conditions to seek an implementation capable of adapting to the uneven terrain rather than imposing itself upon it. The building steps down following the topography, creating different platforms that reduce its visual presence and make it appear, when viewed from the valley, to emerge naturally from the mountain itself.

Access is provided from Carrer de la Turera, located at the upper level of the plot. This condition dictates a differentiated volumetry: a more solid upper part linked to access, parking, and technical spaces, and a progressively more open lower part accommodating the five residences. The layout concentrates circulation and service areas in the rear strip, freeing the main facade so that living rooms and bedrooms face toward the sun and the views. In this way, all residences share an
identical direct relationship with the landscape, regardless of the floor level they occupy.

The terraces extend interior spaces outdoors and restore contact with the land across multiple tiers. This adaptation occurs not only in section: the curved geometry of the upper street and the contour of the plot also shape the plan and profile of the building. The roof responds to these contours through a sequence of sloped planes that fragment the overall volume, accompanying its seamless integration into the topography.

The materiality reinforces this ambition of landscape integration. Natural stone defines the most massive elements of the building, while timber accompanies the more open, intimate domestic zones of the facades. The pitched slate roofs complete an architecture that reinterprets mountain vernacular materials and forms through a contemporary sculptural volume.
